We had the pleasure of learning from Shaun O'Neil, a QAE parent and King County water treatment expert. I am proud to announce that our second graders know more about our local water treatment process than about 95% of adults do. What we learned was fascinating and will hopefully raise more environmentally conscience citizens out of all of us. We got to share all this learning with Rowan, our new classmate. We welcome Rowan to Seattle where it's a bit chillier than where he lived in California. Today we introduced ourselves and gave him a fun fact or tip about our school. It was fun to be part of a conversation through the eyes of a child. It was a lot to take in but all things shared made me realize what a fun school we are a part of.

I did not know about "loop" until this presentation either. Apparently the farmers in Eastern Washington can't get enough of it!

Yes we talked about how flush able wipes really aren't flush able! This actually brings back memories of going to the sewage treatment plant when I was in school!!

So great that Shaun could come! My kids told their dad he couldn't flush matches down the toilet anymore!

Shawn taught me a lot about water! I liked learning that grease oil would dry and harden and clog the drain if you put it down the drain.

We were reminded that you cannot flush hair down the toilet AND, if you pour bacon/grease down the kitchen sink--even if you have a thingy that goes around and chops things up--it could blow a big hole in your pipes and ruin your house. beautiful.

We were reminded that we need to fill the washing machine before running it. I also shared with Kacey a saying from when I lived in California in the drought when I was a kid - "if its yellow leave it mellow, if its....well you get it.

When Esther came home she told me not to put bleach in the toilet because our water is cleaned by bacteria and the bleach kills that bacteria. Yeah, Bacteria!!!!
