We will spend the week doing various activities around our connection with Dwankhozi; hoping to make the distance between us and this far-away place, not so distant. In art, all students will be creating a page about their own lives that will be made into a QAE book that we will take with us in Africa. While in Zambia, myself and the other QAE teachers will be teaching the students at Dwankhozi Basic school the same lesson and have them create pages about their lives and take them back to QAE. We are finding ways we are alike and different than our friends in Zambia which leads us to thoughtful discussions.
This week we will have a coin jar in our classroom. Your child might be looking checking under couch cushions or skimming the car floor for change to contribute. The funds will be used to buy supplies and other needs for the school. I am excited to be personally delivering these supplies come June! Please visit this website that has been created for our school's partnership with Dwankhozi Hope.
I hope you'll join me and the 30 other people that have signed up to be part of the QAE team for the event we get to experience in one day, what 1 billion people do every single day.
Our team has already raised over $1300! If you'd like to join us you can register online or in person on Sunday. When registering please select the QAE team. Registration is $10 online and $20 in person and includes a t-shirt.
Under Connor Desai's leadership, we have been enjoying our music time and are in our second week! We learned that music comes from within and originated by the sounds of our hearts and listening to the sounds in nature. After brainstorming topics to write a song about, WATER comes out on-top again! The kids have been sharing their personal stories around water that will make up the lyrics to our 2nd grade song. We should be performing at the Monday Morning Meeting on May 12th.
Our spelling words this week are content words around our Whales PBL. After doing a pretest, I predict the students will do quite well on the spelling test on Friday!
