The angry bird gets the bad piggy. Well it does if you code it to. What a launching experience we had today that taps into what it takes to program a computer and introduce our children to the future careers involving computer science. Try it out and check out QAE's library resource page to get those piggies yourself!
A different form of coding...or decoding...
Last week we started studying and decoding the following poem. We were able to make a connection with Nelson Mandela's passing and we talked about his contributions to humanity. Enjoy this poem with your child and share what it means to you.
Africa's Child
by Carole Boston Weatherford
Africa's not just some far-off place.
It's the beat of your heart and the sun in your face.
It's grand, old pyramids near the river Nile
and elders naming a newborn child.
It's coconuts dangling from tops of trees
and grasses dancing in the breeze.
It's herds of zebras striped black and white,
and mighty lions that stalk at night.
It's the elephant, giant of the land.
It's cloth and baskets made by hand.
It's chimpanzees on jungle vines,
and riches deep in the darkest mines.
It's the thump , thump, thump of a talking drum.
It's where man's march first started from.
No, Africa's not so far away
for it is inside us to stay.
